Decisions, decisions…

Okay, so Welcome to Night Vale is coming back to Europe in October and I have a decision to make. No, the question is not whether I will be going or not, because that’s a given. The question is where I will be going. So far I’ve seen The Librarian in Stockholm and The Investigators in London and I have no idea where I’m going to aim at getting tickets this year. Should I stay closer to home and go to Stockholm, or go back to London again? Or maybe somewhere else all together? Ireland perhaps? I’ve never been to Ireland and they say that it’s beautiful. Either way I need to decide soon, because the tickets goes on sale on the 19th and I want to get them on that day to be sure that I get it.

So, anyone else going?

Death Note Frenzy

Long, boring and snowy day at work and an even longer drive home (seriously, the road home have never felt so long) but I came home to a lovely surprise. The Death Note hoodie that I had ordered was waiting for me when I entered the house! It’s really soft and warm and beautiful and I love it to bits and pieces! This is the one if you want to check it out, since I don’t have a photo of it right now.

Getting this gem sent me back into the Death Note frenzy that I thought had started to dissipate with the holidays and new year. Not that I’m complaining, I can’t think of a better frenzy to be in to be honest. So I thought that I’d share a few favorite videos of mine with you all, wasn’t that a great idea? I’ll just post them here shall I? Oh, and all of these videos were made by LindaK on YouTube and feature Drama!Lawlight. She is amazing, just telling you.

Giving these two a happier ending is always a good thing and this video does just that.

This one is seriously way more adorable than it has any right to be considering the very interesting (and somewhat filthy) things it does to my imagination. The creator described it as pure sin, and I have no arguments against that what so ever.

Lawlight look exchanges set to the music of ‘Hungry Eyes’. It couldn’t have been more perfect if you ask me. The best part about this is that all of these looks actually happened in the way shown here, they look in each other’s eyes for a great part of their time together. And the end cracks me up every time I watch it.

Speaking of crack…

This is about 15 minutes of pure gold. It has my emotions run up and down like a roller-coaster, but it is pure gold. I think I have watched it far too many times, but it’s still as good as the first!

And now that I have left you with these amazing pieces of awesome, I’ll leave you to your viewing pleasure and go to bed before I get stuck re-watching all of them again. Have a wonderful night everyone!

Lost in London (^_^);;

Some of you might know that I spent one night in London between Monday and Tuesday this week, to attend the Live Show that the amazing people of Welcome to Night Vale did there. It was the first time I was in London and I didn’t get to see a lot of the city unfortunately, since I was staying for such a short time, so I might just have to go back some day and explore a little more. But back to this trip.

It started of pretty good, I feel like I’m slowly getting used to airports although it’s still far too many people rushing about for my tastes. But I didn’t have that long to wait for my flight so it wasn’t really bad.

As soon as I got out of the airport however, I started the theme that followed most of my trip; getting lost… It took me a while to figure out how to get where I needed to go, but one shuttle bus, two trains and a bit of walking later I managed to find the hotel I was staying in. In the end I only stayed there to drop off my bag and take a shower before heading out again, intending to search out the way to Union Chapel. Would anyone get even the slightest surprise if I told you that I got lost… again? I ended up walking for about two hours before I managed to find my way and I got there at about 4.30 I think (didn’t really check the time right then but I think it was around that time). The doors opened at 7 but there was already a bit of a queue lined up and it grew fairly quickly after I took my place in it.

On that point, can I just say that I f*cking adore the Night Vale fandom? The queue was filled to the brim with familiar characters and it was absolutely fantastic! There were everything really, even a couple of Strex employees! It was amazing to watch. Somewhere along the line I ended up in a small group of really cool people that I ended up enjoying the evening with and I really had a great time.

Now the show itself, well… It was absolutely magical as expected! Cecil Baldwin is the god of live-shows, I already knew that from ‘The Librarian’ last year, but it just keeps on amazing me. The way that he can draw reactions out of his audience, whether it be laughter or feeling sorry for someone, simply by giving off a look or a facial expression. And I will never cease to be amazed by the fact that he is actually able to keep a straight face through some of the things that have the audience howling with laughter. It is simply amazing.

And if Cecil is the god, then Meg Bashwiner is the undisputed goddess! Her ‘Deb-voice’ cracks me up every time, and she is one of the funniest people to listen to I know of. I wouldn’t mind my inner monologue being constantly in her voice, just saying.

And Jason Webley? Can I just say that I love this man and his music? Hearing his songs live is something that will not quickly be forgotten. Pyramid especially gave me goosebumps, since I have loved that song since the first time I heard it. And I love the signed copy of the Margaret album that I got to bits and pieces ♥ The man is also something of a clown on stage, making watching him a really enjoyable experience. As a side-note; someone, for the love of everything wonderful, buy the man a giraffe!

I am not gonna say anything specific about the actual show, because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I am just gonna say that every guest was fantastic and it was definitely worth the trip!

Oh right, have some blurry mobile photos because my camera decided not to be cooperative in the slightest…

Cecil and Meg

Finishing off this trip I managed to give myself a rather horrific cold… Apparently my body decided that sitting on the pavement for a few hours was not something that would keep it healthy and I woke up Tuesday morning with a very sore throat and the mother of all headaches >.> I think it’s overreacting to be honest… On the bright side I didn’t get lost finding my way to the airport and I was able to get home safe and sound.

There is not much more to say about this trip, but I want to shout out a big thank you to everyone who made this trip an amazing one: The Welcome to Night Vale people and all the people I met during the Monday. You all made this a great memory to keep!

What Have I Done To My Life?

I am well aware that I spend more time on the internet than is probably healthy (in my defense there is not much else to do in my Middle of Nowhere) and a large portion of that time is spent browsing on YouTube. Despite the huge amount of time I spend on that wonderful site, I have never been interested in the phenomena that is YouTubers. However, these past few weeks that has changed.

I blame my sister completely and she knows it, but instead of feeling guilty as she should, she is incredibly proud of herself for having ruined my life. To be fair I had much the same feeling when I ruined hers with Doctor Who…

Anyway, she adores these two particular YouTubers called AmazingPhil and danisnotonfire

…and have been slowly but surely feeding me images and short clips of them, either when we’ve met or through her Twitter and Tumblr accounts. At last I came to the point where my curiosity was greater than my self-preservation and I gave their videos a watch… I rather quickly stumbled upon their gaming channel, and about halfway through their series of playing Sims 4 this tweet happened…

Just noticed my typo… I need to proof-read my tweets before posting them…

I was seriously questioning my sanity at this point because it shouldn’t be that addicting to watch two adults(!) playing a game that I generally connect with young teens… But despite the fact that my mind is seriously endangered, I keep on watching videos, continuously asking myself why I am doing it. But oh well, I’ll keep on blaming my sister and using that to make me feel better about the complete loss of a life that I have ended up with… Not that I had much of one to begin with…

A wild Obi appeared!!

I have been in a constant state of silly smiles since I watched the third episode of the Akagami no Shirayukihime anime last night. My favorite character finally appeared! I have been waiting for this since the very first episode (though really, I knew he wouldn’t show up immediately…) and he is finally here! The cat-eyed oddball that is Obi!

We have seen him like this in the opening credits before so I knew what he was going to look like, but it was a real treat to finally see him in action and hearing his voice.

As those of us who is reading the manga knows, when Obi first appear he is employed by a man of the court who is bent on getting Shirayuki away from Zen by any means necessary. Obi’s job is to scare her off, and he does this by shooting an arrow at her with a message to leave the castle. His face when she is not scared off and keeps going is priceless!

Shirayuki confronts the man getting in her way and effectively impresses both him and Obi, who later remarks to Zen that he rather took a liking to her so he wouldn’t lay a hand on her anymore. This is also the time when he starts to call Zen Master of his own accord, attaching himself to the small group.

This is as already mentioned, my absolute favorite ANS character, and I really look forward to seeing him as the story progresses. I hope that they will keep doing the anime for as long as the manga goes on, and doesn’t do as they did with Skip Beat, ending it after one season. I have a lot of arcs that I want to see in full color and moving, like the Tanburn-arc and the time in Lyrias. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but I will keep my fingers crossed for sure!

Videos and gaming?

As some of you might know, I spent a lot of my free time playing a game called Mabinogi. It is an MMO, and one of the few that I can actually keep interest in (and believe me, I’ve tried a lot of them) Now, if you are anything like me, you will at one point or other have wanted to record your gameplay. In my case I wanted to record the cutscenes and certain quests, as well as make it easier to get good screenshots for character references (since most of my game characters are visually based on my OCs and I want to be able to buy art of them). There is a recording system built into Mabinogi, and it is actually pretty good. However, it only records for five minutes and I usually want to record something longer than that. So I went on the hunt for a software that I could use.

After trying out a few different alternatives I settled on one called LoiLo Game Recorder. It is free software and the installation includes a trial of the LoiLo Video Editor as well. This can safely be uninstalled if you, like me, already have a video-editor that you are happy with. The software is very easy to use and have options to record only the sound from the game, your voice, or no sound at all. There is also no time-limit to your recordings, which was the deciding factor for me. You can literally record for hours, unless you run out of disc space. The software itself has no limit.

The only problem that I have run into, and that would be present with any software really, is the file size. The video-files are really big. I’ve had files that reach over 20 GB, and I believe the video was about 1½ hour long. Which is completely unmanageable of course. What I needed then was to compress the file into a smaller size, preferably without loosing much of the quality. There are many different softwares out there, both free and paid, that does the job, and I searched around for a while to find one that suited me. My choice fell on Handbrake, an easy to use freeware that does the job remarkably well. None of my game videos now exceed 4 GB, even those that are nearly 2 hours. It makes them much more manageable to move between my desktop and my laptop, as well as not using up all the space on my hard-drives. It compresses into either MP4 or MKV format and I barely see any change in the quality at all despite the quite remarkable down-size.

I don’t have any edited videos with footage gotten by these means just yet, but I am working on it. And in the meantime, try it out yourselves. I can be at least reasonably sure that you will not be disappointed with the results.

Associations from Night Vale

Every fangirl and fanboy knows this phenomenon in one way or another: the way certain fandoms make you look at things in a different manner than you did before. Some fandoms change your views more than others, bringing only a giggle at a mention or making you freak out completely at the very thought. Following is a list of ways that one particular fandom have changed my perspective. The fandom in question is Welcome to Night Vale (because I am ridiculously addicted to that wonderful podcast) which makes for a rather chaotic view of the world. So hold on tight and come along on a trip down crazy lane 😉

Looking with wary suspicion at various things
Because a lot of things are not nearly as innocent as they would like you to believe. Libraries and dog parks are only a few of the things that can be incredibly dangerous despite appearances. While I am not actually scared of the librarians at my local library (come to think of it though, I can’t remember entering the library even once since I started listening to WtNV…) I do get uneasy near dog parks and would think twice before approaching them.

Things that make no sense to other are perfectly normal
This is not something that happens immediately, or even at one specific point. It is a gradual thing where things that you at first recognize at strange become completely normal things. I didn’t actually realize this point fully until I tried telling a friend about WtNV and he looked at me as if I had grown a second head (which did not happen, I try to stay clear of sentient lightning). Some of the things that are, to me, perfectly normal include the following:

  • A big Glow Cloud that drops dead animals everywhere is on the PTA and more or less control the local school. ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY GLOW CLOUD!
  • A literal five-headed dragon and a faceless old woman who secretly lives in everyone’s houses are perfectly acceptable mayoral candidates (though they did lose in the end).
  • Also, there is a faceless old woman secretly living in everyone’s houses.
  • Mountains do not exist.
  • Angels aren’t real. No, not even the ones living in Old Woman Josie’s house.
  • The weather reports on the radio is music. Obviously.
  • Memory loss smells like vanilla.
  • The Dog Park is forbidden and should never be approached. In fact, you should not even be consciously aware that it exists.
  • Time is complicated and does not quite work right. Also, time travel have been legalized now so it might become even more confusing than ever.

There are more of course, but those were the ones I could think of at the top of my head.

There are more associations and things that have affected my way of seeing the world, but these are some of the more major ones. There are also, of course, other fandoms that cause things like this in one way or another. I would for example never take my eyes of an angel statue and shop dummies give me the creeps. But that is a story for another time.

For now, have a wonderful day everyone out there.
